No. However, "allow disk to sleep where possible" might be sucking some performance in terms of quick file access etc (this would save battery though)
It uses less CPU if you take the battery out, and run off pure-AC.
The newer power bricks aren't actually strong enough to charge the laptop if you're stressing the notebook whilst on AC. Hence, if you take the battery out and try to push the machine it cannot draw enough juice and cuts out dead.
