Macbook Pro cracked chip

Hi all,

I have a Macbook Pro which has had problems with its keyboard, however, upon opening it up, I discovered that the lid of the power controller IC (the small chip in the bottom left hand corner of the photos, between the display connector and the fan) has cracked. The coils within seem intact, and the Macbook seems to be charging as normal. I have another Macbook Pro for which the surface of the same chip is also deformed and may be on the verge of cracking. Apparently these things get rather hot (googling around, I found somebody who had accidentally burnt themselves on theirs).

Does anybody have experience with this component? Can it be changed (e.g. with rework station), and could it have anything to do with the keyboard problem, or likely separate?

Thanks in advance.
