Upgraded my MacBook Pro's harddrive last week and installed a fresh copy of leopard and this week its started acting odd - runs fine on mains, but when you unplug it, it will run fine for about 40 mins then it will just shut off, completely dead, when you plug it in again the battery is indicated as 0% but after a couple of minutes it goes back up to where it should be at about 80%. Any ideas?

looks fine to me, i'm thinking it might be a hardware issue, maybe I messed up a bit of wiring when upgrading the hard drive. The button on the battery shows its dead too so maybe not...

//edit the cycles field is difinitly wrong - iStatPro shows it as 78, wonder where it's getting that from...
// edit 2 - also shows charger is not connected but batteery is charging :P

And thats with my charger lead plugged in...

Just wondering if i've voided my warrenty by swapping HDD :/ when I swapped it I bent the keyboard cover a little, so I reckon it would be easy for them to tell that i've opened it even if I put the old HDD in :/

put my old hard drive back in and it does the same thing, after reading Apple battery exchange program website I have the same symptoms of the batterys affected in the recall as well as the same model number of battery, but my serial number is not affected. Also it worked fine for the last year without losing any capacity...

When I put my old drive back in the battery reported as 35% with 35% health, I left it turned off to charge for a bit then turned it on again and it's now at 75% but won't charge any higher, unplugging it it will run for a few minutes before cutting out... odd

think i'll ring apple tomorrow and see if they will exchange, are batterys covered this long after purchase though? Also would be nice if it was a hardware problem to get a free C2D out of it :p

I think it depends on whether or not you bought Apple Care (or bought it with an HE discount). If either of the above are true then you should have 3 years hardware support which I assume is an extended hardware warranty.

if you buy with HE you get apple care for free? 200 quids worth?

14% off and 200 quid in benefit? jeeeeez :) any other hidden goodies?

EDIT: actually just read up, it would seem you get the 3 years warranty but you dont get the bits and bobs such as phone support that you do with the proper apple care :)

If you send the MBP back and they see the bent cover then you can kiss your warranty bye-bye to be honest.

I would be tempted to just drop it on some carpet a few times and say it stopped working alltogether = replacement, not repair.

Don't know what's going on with the "Original capacity" value, but it's higher now!?

must have been the calibration I did to it..

Is accidental damage covered? if so i'm tempted to chuck it out the window :D ...

Not sure, call Apple.

If you're going to intentionally break it then make sure you don't mark it. That way it looks like it F.U.B.A.R'd on it's own accord ;)
