Hi guys

Im fixing a friends macbook pro 2.16ghz MBP (MA609LL) as it has a failed HDD. I have the required tools but i am not 100% on which HDD i need. i *think* i need a SATA 5400 or 7200 2.5" drive or can i use sata2?

also on a separate issue i think the hdd is dying on my own mac. as soon as i use over a certain capacity it beachballs. i dont have the original silver apple disks to boot with D to hdd test. is there another way to do so?

thanks for your help

Check if the old drive was 5200 or 7200 rpm if it was a 5200 check google to see what people say about a 7200 in them, it may cook and not last long, as macs tend to be specially designed for specific components

I have a 7200 rpm hdd in my MBP for 2 years. Now problems with the tiny amount of extra heat. There is no significant difference in energy consumption, but 7200 drives can be slightly louder, but are faster.

I had a 7200 rpm drive in my macbook for 3 years with no problems.

I put another 7200 rpm drive (Scorpio Black) in my MBP a few weeks ago. No heat problems, but it gives me the impression of being slightly noisier.

so the hdd is in place and the OS is installing. Can windows 7 (with software if necessary) read the mac filesystem. Id like to try see if i can get data off
