Hey guys,

I had a meeting today, for around an hour that I used my new MBP for, but during it, the fans did ramp up and in certain parts it did get very hot.

is this normal? Or possibly the cooling system a bit choked and mabye needing a clean out?

just to add :

I have been browsing the web, listening to Spotify and having my email client loaded up, and barely hot or and noise at all. And its not exactly cold here atm either..

Thanks Feek, thanks for the reply mate.

Do you have any idea what Apple would charge for a "clean" or "service" or whatever?

When I went in with my 12" retina MB, they were so good! Its Apple ethos though, that's why I love them so much! But I don't expect it to be nothing as its not in warranty (well from Apple direct now).

Thanks feel, might do that, I’m sure they can run some sort or diagnostics on it, or something?

I don’t mind paying a charge as so far, I’m happy with the laptop..

and if there does turn out to be an issue, it’s cool, will get a replacement sent out!

They'll do it for you, and shouldn't charge you either. You can run some diagnostics yourself, this will be a basic check but it should check the high and low speeds of the fans (hold D key on boot and connected to net ofc). If you take it in they'll be able to run a specific cooling/stress test on it though.

Feek is correct. What is common on both the 13 and 15" versions on this model (not sure which one you have) is dust getting trapped between the exhaust and the heat sink on both fans as the heat sink kinda blocks it. If you got the right screwdriver for the bottom casing (pentalobe screwdriver) its just a case of those 8 screws and then blowing/cleaning it out. Really easy to do and you shouldn't need to remove anything. Blowing through the vent at rear inwards is counter productive really as it'll push it in more.

that's good to know, I will look into this depending on what Apple say..I have booked an Apple appointment for tomorrow after noon and see what's what.

I think I have that screw in my precision bits, so I will double check.

thanks for the information, appreciated!

well, back from Apple..

top service as always, diagnostics and cooling programs run..all good and clean! :)

didn't charge, the apple genius even said before the cooling tests, if it was more than cleaning, such as thermal paste that would not be charged either!!

so impressed, the guy was so sound and had a good wee gibber too!
