Hi,

Was thinking of upgrading the RAM on my Late 2011 15" Macbook Pro (i.e., the one currently being sold).

Have a couple of questions, firstly, on the Apple website it says "For best performance, fill both memory slots, installing an equal memory module in each slot." How true is this? I was thinking that 8gb is probably overkill, but if their truly is a performance hit with 6 gb, then it's not going to be worth it is it?

Secondly, what RAM am I actually looking for?
On the Apple website it says it takes...
- Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format
- 67.6mm x 30mm (1.18 inch)
- 2 GB or 4 GB
- 204-pin
- PC3-10600 DDR3 1333 MHz type RAM

So would the memory on this page work for example?

Thanks guys

Very true, the are two memory channels which can be accessed at the same time, only putting memory in one channel halves the maximum theoretical performance. IIRC putting different size modules in each socket causes systems to run in single channel mode as well just accessing two chips.

Yeah you'll be fine, this is a shot from Mactracker just so you can see:

If you want to be dooobley certain you can run the checker on the Crucial website, but all the 2011 Macbook Pros are compatible with that Memory.
