Macbook pro microphone not working

Hi guys,

My Macbook Pro microphone appears to has stopped working but not sure why as it has happened randomly. I have looked in the Audio MIDI Setup and the bars are all to the right (bar master one?) for microphone. Checking in sound preference the bar just won't go up when talking. If I bash my laptop I get some response from it.

Any ideas apart from ring applecare?

I think you need get Apple to fix it under warranty.

I bought an external USB soundcard to improve the sound quality when using Skype - it was ~ £20. But it also improves the sound from iTunes.

Surely that is mostly all software based. The internal satellites will have limitations.
