Hopefully someone can help me out with this one.

I noticed my girlfriends Macbook runs extremely warm compared to mine but it always virtually silent unlike mine.

Noticed a sluggish performance and when streaming Netflix/Sky Go/BT Sports it would become laggy after pausing for 5/10 mins it would rectify the problem until the heat becomes an issue again after 5/10 mins and repeats the initial problem. I noticed when this happens when looking in activity monitor Kernal_Task CPU Usage jumps to 200/300%.

Now I installed SMC Fan Control to bump these fans up and the RPM isn't showing and when I turn them up nothing happens when streaming it is between 80/85c and I managed to open a few programs and briefly get the temperature as high as 100c with no difference to fan speed obviously that is a problem. So obviously the fans are just non existent according to the computers brain they should be ramping up constantly changing RPM.

Trying to keep it as cool as possible as those temperatures can't be healthy but would anyone be able to suggest anything for me to sort this issue out?

Macbook Pro 13inch 2012 Mid.

Cheers

Nope sadly she doesn't!

And listening very closely the fans sound like they are just running at idle speeds.

Sadly I imagine this isn't going to end very well for her, hope I'm proven wrong though.

They are the normal screws only recently had the bottom off to replace her data cable and it didn't seem clogged up.

Even if it was clogged up let's say surely it would still have the RPM reading or if I choose to change the RPM form 2000 to 6000 you'd hear some movement?

She's a student but I'm sure if it needs to be looked at by Apple then there won't be another way around it. Appreciate all your help so far.

Edit! I did a SMC before starting this thread and no luck.

Correct me if I am wrong but an SMC reset is as follows, CTRL, Alt(Option key) Shift whilst holding the power button then realising and powering on?

Most up to date OS version, latest version of SMC installed today.

No luck after doing an SMC reset, will perhaps pop it down to Apple or a Certified Apple tech place and get it diagnosed.

Recently had it took to a place where they diagnosed it and I'm pretty sure this problem has constantly been like this from owning the Macbook so surprised it wasn't picked up.

What occured to me is after speaking with my girlfriend she had not noticed the fans speeding up at all for 2 months or so and only realsied when I had brought it to her attention.

Now as we had the Macbook Diagonsed 1 month ago, I'd have though it would have popped up as an issue on there.

So I decided to take another look at the fan which again sempt pretty clean until I unscrewed it a big thick layer of dust was waiting for me simply removed and cleaned.

The system is picking the fan RPM up and the fan speeds are changing when workload is increased.

Problem solved, thanks for your input.
