MacBook Pro - quick question

Hey guys,

if I don't touch my macbook pro for a few minutes, the screen dims + keyboard lights go out. It doesnt bother me that the keyboard lights go out but the screen dimming is really annoying, though I've looked in system prefs and nothing I do seems to stop this from happening.

Can any one shed some light on the reason for thi sand how I stop it?

Edit: And another quick one: how can I increase the mouse pointer speed - I like a very fast cursor and the maximum in OSX is too slow for me. Any suggestions?

To solve the screen dimming,

1)click on the battery in the menu bar
2)go to open energy saver
3)click on options in the preference penal
4)uncheck the "automatic reduce brightness..." option

Sorted.

Do that to the power adaptor and/or battery power option, depending on your preferences.

Not too sure about the mouse acceleration... sorry.

It already is unchecked!

Macbook Pro DVI port

I'm thinking of getting rid of my Mac Mini and IBM laptop in a couple of months and probably go with a Macbook or 15" Macbook pro (why isn't there a 15" Macbook? :( ). This will be getting hooked up to my HDTV now and again for watching movies etc but my TV only has VGA input. My question is, will the Macbook Pro with a simple DVI > VGA adapter do the job here or is there anything else I need to worry about?

That will work fine.

Yes, you can buy a simple DVI --> VGA adapter during the purchase of the MBP.

System Prefs => Displays => Untick 'Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes'

Try that.

But I want it to change as the ambient light changes, just not dim whenever I stop using my keyboard for 5 mins! I think Dr Jones had the right option, but I think there must be a bug in the latest OSX/firmware that is causing it to be ineffective.

If you are using an external mouse an application such as Steermouse can change this for you, they have a 14 day trail I think if you want to try it.

I know this might be a long shot but have you rebooted your system?

I'm all out of ideas, my MacBook here is all up to date and not an issue with the dimming - I use to have that option on. (I've also locked the settings, tried that?)
