Hi,

It seems like the gpu in my 2012 retina is nearing death, lots of crashes and general instability pointing to it. I don't have any extended warranty and I guess this is a new logic board job, but does anyone know what kind of cost a repair would be?

I really wanted a new MB this year when they upgrade, so it seems silly if it's going to be over a couple of hundred for a new logic board? :(

Thanks!

where did you purchase this macbook pro retina?

if you bought this from a apple store directly then you should get 6 years of warranty.

i got my macbook retina 2014 screen replaced free of charge recently, the guy told me its because it was purchased from a apple store and has total of 6 years warranty.

unfortunately this doesn't applies to other store.

if you got it from someone else. then book a appointment with apple anyway. you might be lucky if the original owner got it from apple.

As Vaio says above there's a repair extension program for it. Book a Genius appointment at your local Apple Store.

Don't know if you could be effected by this? I remember that a lot of people had issues with Macbook Pro Retinas with certain GPU's a few years back.

If you are then Apple will repair it for you as part of the Repair Extension Program.

Thanks guys, just an update - managed to get a new logic board (~£400) free under the replacement program, 4 years after purchase :)

Sounds excellent. Apple warranty is probably one of the best out there. They repaired my iPhone 28 months after purchase for free a while ago even though there was no extension program or AppleCare involved.

Fantastic! Glad you managed got get it fixed, especially for free :D

You really have to hand it to Apple their warranty and aftercare is the best out there.

was it a 15" then? if so you better get rid of it quick before it die again. Apple doesn't fix the issues, they just simply replace it.
