Macbook pro running slow???

Hi all tittle a little mis leading but, 6/7 times out of 10 when closing some apps like mail it doesn't seem to close them down and i have to do a force quit.
Anyone know what could be wrong??

Could be a number of things.

Have your repaired disk permissions? Ran anything like Onyx?

Although i have owned Macs for a number of years I'm still pretty much a newbie, so not done any of that.
