Just a couple of questions:

1) Is there any issue running XP for extended periods of time on a macbook pro using bootcamp?

2) Is there any way to extend the XP partition after installation via bootcamp?

1) Not that I know of.
2) Just open Boot Camp Assistant in OS X and slide the partition up for more space :)

Yeah, its a waste of a Mac. :p Only joking, I'm no fanboy.

If you do increase the size of the partition afterwords just make sure you back up your stuff, both OSX and Windows. While it'll most likely be fine, amending the partitions on the fly with a drive with your data on does carry a limited risk. :)

One more, when i use headphones while in XP, the sound comes through both the headphones and the laptop speakers, any reason for this?

I'm running OSX 10.4.11, when I try to use Boot camp assistant, it tells me its expired. And it seems that you can only get it with 10.5. What can i do?

You cant reduce the disk size created for Windows so be careful!

I had to do a reinstall as I made my Windows space bigger than I needed it to be!

Never had any issues with it though, moved to using Parallels now though as its easier for what I need!

I actually want to increase the size of the windows partition as I am giving the machine to more of a windows user.

out of interest how big are you making the partition for xp? i'll be bootcamping mine soon. I was thinking of giving xp about 20gb. the HD on my macbook is 250 so lots of space really.

I gave my bootcamp partition 30gb, youd be surprised how fast it can fill up if you install any games or large apps. This also allows you to leave a bit of free space for swap files etc and gives you a bit of leeway.

Mainly depends on what apps youre planing to install.

Currently my XP partition is 30Gb, but I intend to extend that by another 20-30Gb.

Obviously your milage may vary, but out of 250 I would probably give it 50 if you're going to be in it regularly.

I gave mine 20 thinking that would be more than enough but once I'd installed Windows, Office and CivIV I was starting to think "eeek".

I'm running WinFLP in a 10GB partition and it's fine for when I need to use the work VPN and run Office 2007, got about 6GB free. Obviously if you're going to be playing games you'll want to up this.

I use my MBP with Vista and OSX but did have XP before that and ran into no problems. Its my 3rd week now in OSX and the cold turkey for using Vista is slowing fading (I do get my moments but it soon passes) at this rate I might have to remove the Vista partition

Do you need Windows or just some Windows Applications?

If it is the later then how about VMWare Fusion or Parallels? If it is the former at least you will have a very stylish Windows machine!!!

I recently purchased a 2.4 Ghz Macbook so my old Macbook Pro (1.8Ghz) is going to my parents to use, and they only use Windows. So I wanted to reduce the OSX partition (about 45Gb atm) and add to the 30Gb XP partition. But when I tried using disk utility, it wouldn't let me change the partition sizes.

Unless there is some pressing reason not to introduce OS X to your parents why not give them a chance to take her for a spin?

To answer your problem you probably need to do a disk repair on the drive. You can do this from Disk Utility.
