Ive recently put a SSD into my Macbook pr 13" mid-2010, but since then it seems to take ages for the first apple logo to show up when booting up the laptop. Once the apple logo appears the laptop turns on pretty quick but has anybody got any idea why it hangs on a white screen when its first turned on for so long ?

Its hangs on the white screen for maybe 20-30 seconds before the apple logo appears.

Ive just tried resetting the SMC and didn't seem to do anything at all. When i got the SSD i clone my original hard drive and once it had finished i swapped the hard drives.

apart from the problem I'm having its brilliant.

Cloning the drive can cause alignment issues. The best thing to do is a fresh install and instead of cloning use migration assistant afterwards to bring your data back from either another drive or from a Time Machine backup.

If you want to check before going through the hassle you can get GPT fdisk:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/

Check the data locations of your partitions and put the data in here:

since I've already cloned the hard drive and using the SSD is the migration assistant a possibility. That might sound a bit stupid but what i mean is does it matter the SSD has data on it if not can i just go through the migration assistant wizard right now ?

You can run the migration assistant if you wish but it wont cure a miss aligned drive without doing a fresh install.
