MacBook Pro Sound

I've had my MacBook Pro for around a year now, was at my mates house yesterday and he has just bought a MacBook Pro with same spec etc as mine. I noticed though that the volume on his Mac was a lot louder than mine. Any ideas how I could increase mine

New hardware, got a sound boost with the latest update. Don't use the onboard sound, use external speakers otherwise you will knacker the onboard speakers out.
