MacBook Pro temps

hey, any MBP owners mind posting what their standard CPU temps are? I have noticed in the past few days that my fans are blasting full open a lot more frequently than I noticed before. My CPU temp is around 70degrees. Is this normal enough for a laptop? Fan speeds earlier were constantly at 4000rpm and getting quite noisy. As long as nothing is wrong I can tolerate the fans fine. Just wanted to check out what other peoples temps are.

From iStatPro my temps are:
CPU 72
GPU 54
GPU heatsink 65
Heatsink A 53
Heatsink B 46

Cheers

mine runs super quiet as if its not on...doesnt really get warm either ...im pretty new to a macbook pro so if you tell me how to check the temps properly i will and will gladly post the results :)

yeah i'd be happy enough if it was just down to global warming! It has been in constant use too getting my dissertation finished so maybe thats partly to blame also.

edit: if you go to the apple site you can look for a widget called iStatPro - its gives you all the hardware stats you need!

Mines at;

CPU A: 51.0*C
CPU Core 1: 46.0*C
CPU Core 2: 45.0*C
Enclosure Bottomside: 28*C
GPU Chip: 44.0*C
GPU Heatsink: 48.0*C
Main Heatsink 1: 45.0*C
Main Heatsink 2: 37.0*C
Memory Controller: 42.0*C
Memory Sensor: 53.0*C
Hard Disk: 33.0*C

This is with Temperature Monitor V4.1.

Theres quite a few sensors haha!

Josh

EDIT- Just checked through iStat, and its the same.

My CPU cores are 20degrees hotter than that - really dont understand it!

On the hot side for idle temperatures. Is it a Core Duo MBP rather than Core 2 Duo? I think the earlier chips run hotter. :)

nope its the core 2 duo ones - had it since feb and this is the first that iv noticed the fans running when its idle. Any suggestions as to what could be the cause? Also are these temps still safe enough or should I be getting worried?

edit - istatpro is currently showing usage of:
54% user
3% system
40% idle

Does this sound right? The only app I have open is itunes

Not sure of the cause but it's within range.

I've seen my MacBook C2D at 80c CPU in lid-closed mode with the CPUs maxed out.

Looks like some random process is taking a fair amount of CPU time. try a reboot. :)

Could be you got a machine where they've applied too much thermal paste??

Was an issue with the first lot of CoreDuo Macbooks, but I thought they'd done away with the bad practice. Might want to speak to Apple, see if you can get it replaced.. or at least looked at.

yeah it is a strange one - the only other thing I forgot to add was that the electric in our house was flashing off and on the other day. Would a power surge or something have messed something up inside? These are meant to be power surge adapters tho so dont know how it could be that but worth mentioning.

Been running my new MBP all day (setting it up):

CPU: 58c
GPU: 50c
GPU Heatsink: 57c
Heatsink A:52c
Heatsink B: 44c

Doesn't seem that bad.

now that I think about it, my fan has been going off a lot more often since the latest apple software update a few days ago - maybe that has something to do with it.

I was in Africa for a month and even there the fan would only come on if I was running it on my lap, or doing something that was cpu/gpu intensive, but recently the fan comes on even if all I'm running is firefox and adium...

i hope it is just down to a software update! I did install a few the other day but cannot remember what they were.

I had itunes and safari open when i took my resuts, sitting on a glass desk.

Had my MBP since feb also!

iStat says my fans are at 2000rpm.

Mine is a 17" model.

CPU A: 50c
GPU: 44c
GPU Heatsink: 48c
Heatsink A: 47c
Heatsink B: 37c
Enclosure bottom: 32c

2.33GHz, 15".

Was getting a bit warmer earlier on when iTunes was doing it's quest for gapless playback though. Currently I have Firefox, iTunes and the Blizztard downloader open.

That depends on exactly what is running, what you're ambient temp is, if the air holes on the back are being given enough room, etc. It is not a simple question as you seem to make out, there are lots of variables involved - so how bout you be more specific?

was flicking through my Activity Monitor there now and under 'All processes' I spotted something called 'PrintJobMgr'. This was showing up 100% CPU usage. I had no idea what it is or where it came from but it did say it was used by 'IP'. I terminated this task and instantly all my fans stopped and CPU temps reduced down to around 50 degrees again. Can anyone explain this??

Could just be a software/EFT error?
Because some PCs can show big temperature differences (that arnt actually there) with just a thing as simple as a BIOS change.
