hello

recieved my apple macbook pro yesterday the 17 inch one......im trying to connect to the internet via the airport wireless systym but having no joy......im currently connected to the internet by an ethernet cable.......i have reset my router and my mac is picking up signals from my router as it has my wireless network in range, now when i try to connect it says joining wireless network but then comes up saying error in joining prefereed network belkin ...., what should i do im stuck for words and actions now :(

updating the softwarefirmware on the router/mac

try connecting via the network dialog in system prefs and typing in the WEP/WPA key there, usually solves wireless problems for me on my mac.

hello i think ive come to solve my long problem.......do i need a router thats compatible with MAC...as mines so old i dont think its compatible im looking at a netgear one and it says its mac and windows compatible.....if someone could tell me a router which they know works with MAC....my current router is **** its a belkin model number F5D7630-4A DONKEYS YEARS OLD not to mention it keeps dropping my connection

ps could someone please tell me how to get my address bar back on safari internet

Have you tried manually setting it up by choosing "Other" from the list of available SSIDs? My parent's router (which uses WEP as their laptop isnt WPA-capable) wont connect if I select it but works if you manually set it up.

Quick crash course of info:

1. Macs are supported

2. 802.11b/g is a wireless standard, meaning that anything that supports 802.11b/g will work with ANYTHING else that works with 802.11b/g. It means that the fact you are on a Mac (MAC is something else entirely ) really can't be the problem

Here has a good review/walkthrough of your router, particularly the Wireless settings if you scroll down to it. Another thing to check is your MAC (see above link for what it is) address filtering incase you have that set to to only allow ones you define through and haven't defined any yet :)

Oh and and to get the address bar back; View > Show Address Bar

lol so why is nothing working?? ive tried every single possible thing now ..and why on a certain purple shirt website have routers that are 802.11b/g and say they arnt mac compatible

hes right it should be working... airport is just apples branding on wireless.. its just the same as in a pc...

try disconnecting other things from the router... then give the mac a blast with only it on the router... somthing else might be trying to manage your network.. windows pc for example!

good luck

That's because they don't know what they're talking about half the time. Most probably the software that comes with it to set it up is Windows only, but if it has a web interface (haven't come about one that doesn't) and you have half a brain you can quite easily set it up on any system.

yes but not everyone is a wiz-kid genious when it comes to PCs and software, like me im pretty much useless unless its basic so im sorry for the n00by Qs but not everyone can be as smart and quick with PCs as some on here........if some people spent as much time helping people instead of the smart *** remarks they make things would be much easier to do.....i appreciate all your comments so far you guys have helped me unlinke some threads ive posted in before so MANY THANKS so far :)

WOOO HOOO got it ALL working.......i was right it was the router guys......went out and got me a new netgear router connected wirelessly in less than 10 mins WOOO.....thanks for your help guys :)
