MacBook Pro with a Panasonic PX70

I have just got a dvi - HDMI lead for my Mac Book Pro. I connected it all up and set screen setting to 1024 - 768 which is the Panny setting and top and bottom part of the screen is being cropped of why is this. So i only see have of the top task bar and half of the dock at the bottom

The resolution of the MBP is 16:10, whereas conventional monitors / TVs display 16:9

Hmmm did not know that and it does make sense as that is the bit i am missing out by that much

So is there no way round this then

Its displaying the full picture ** camera is exporting so whats the problem?

PX70 means not a lot to me. What's the resolution on the panel?
