Got a MacBook Pro 2012/2013 which won’t boot into OS. I’ve never used a Mac before, it’s my wife’s and I always use my phone or company laptop.

It was getting about 40% along the loading bar after entering password and then stopped.

Ran first aid, told me that fsroot tree invalid. Ran terminal and then started in safe mode did fsck which repaired the error. Ran first aid again, no errors on disc.

Restarted, reset NVRAM, reset SMC.

Login while pressing shift, press the login button using the mouse don’t use enter.

Login bar now goes a lot quicker to 100% but won’t load the OS.

Any suggestions. I would like to get the data off the drive. It is passworded, I do have access to another Mac, but if possible getting into the OS in this one seems simplest. Will remove and replace drive afterwards with 1TB SSD and start from scratch maybe.

Anything I have overlooked?
