MacBook repair question.

This question is about my MBP, but it could be any Mac really.

Basically, I just got a MBP. It's took me all day to set up and I was thinking to myself "thank god I don't have to do this again" and something just crossed my mind.

If my MacBook ever needed to go in for repair, say for a new screen, or a logic board, battery etc. Basically anything but the HDD. Can I keep my data? I'm unsure if changing things like the logic board requires OS X to be re installed.

Just something I'm wondering, hopefully I will never have to find out.

Get an external hard drive and setup time machine. then you will be able to restore your hard drive should this one fail.

I back up anyways, I was just wondering if they replace another part (not HDD) would everything just be left as it is or do they have to re install OS X?

If you have a full image backup the question becomes superfluous in any event.

I don't like to do an image backup, I never have. But I do have all my music, videos, photos etc backed up.
