Am off to the Trafford Centre tomorrow to spend some hard earned pennies, and the idea of getting a mac is starting to appeal to me. I have had a play on my friends mac mini, but would like the portability, but im in love with the o/s (this coming from an avid m'soft fan boy)

Now i know there are various variations of macbook, but im just primarily looking at the base model, but upgrade to 4gb of RAM, would this be sufficient for a mac noob like me. The macbook will be used for me to get to grips with the mac o/s and maybe a bit of photo editing.

All replys appreciated!

I have been a bit disappointed with Vista Business on my relatively new Toshiba laptop. The one thing that has put me off Macs is the price, but for something you're probably going to use all day every day, I think having a quality machine would be worth the cost, and that is what Macs appear to be offering, so .... YES.

I got a macbook pro in march (not much diff between it and normal macbook). Really like it. The os is much much nicer to use.. However if you just want the os, it seems you can install it on some other laptops which might cost you a whole lot less.. Anyway http://www.osx86project.org/ is the link incase its useful..

i have dumped my high spec gaming machine and now have a 7 year old g4 mac just so i could run leopard as i was sick to death of vista!

planning on getting a top spec imac when they go quad. the software is ace even if it does take a while to fully understand .dmg files!

i'd like to say that leopard for me is more stable than vista but i suffer from a lot of program shitdowns.... probably due to hardware limitations tho!

i'd say as a mac convert go for it come over to the dark side lol

Go for it, I just bought a macBook basic version and upgraded the ram myself (Easy and so so much cheaper than doing via the apple store).

And it does everything i want including photo editing so I'd say go for it!!

No don't buy one now, new MacBooks out in September.

I'm waiting till October to buy one in America too, new models will be out by then and I get it for around £150 cheaper than rip-off Britain.
