MacBook slow local copy across wifi

I have my home network setup as such, but missing numerous other wired and wireless devices.

Issue I'm having is copying anything from my laptop to my home server via wifi is woefully slow, 10+ mins for a couple of gig. However general wifi seems to be fine, if I run a download speed test from my laptop I'm maxing out 150Mb of what my FTTP connection is providing, and file copying from my wired Mac to the home server is incredible fast.

The issue has come and gone previously but seems constant now, any idea what the issue could be or how I can go about finding the bottleneck?

Thanks

Have you tried using an ethernet adapter from the MBP (to both of the switches ideally)? If so, do you have any problems?
And do you have any issues transferring similar loads with the iMac?

Activity Monitor does display network i/o traffic which will give you a (very) rough idea of transfer "speed" but as @ChrisD. mentions, doing a few iperf runs would massively help with testing and diagnosing the issue.

Never used Ipref before, downloaded it and can see its command line driven so will need to get my head around how to use it.

Activity Monitor is showing ~7.5-8.5Mb a sec when trying to copy a 2.5Gb file to my home server (10+ Minutes) and similar when trying to copy a same size file from it; from my iMac that would normally easily be less than a minute.

Just ordered an ethernet adapter so lets see what results that brings.

Thanks to the both of you for the pointers.
