I am having a problem with my new MacBook on start up and I wonder if anyone can help.

On starting by pressing the on button the machine boots and then after about a minute the screen goes black like it has gone to Sleep, it can be woken but it just does the same thing.

However, if I do a hard reboot (ctrl-apple-on button) and wait for the beep it will run perfectly for hours....but after restarting some hours later I have the same problem.

I have googled and read about some problems with random restarts but I dont think this is the same. It only appears to happen shortly after restart.

Any help will be greatly appreacted

The only thing I can think of to try would be to reset the PMU:

  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
  3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
  4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
  5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

Thanks for this, tried it with no joy. Phoned Apple and they are replacing my week-old MacBook, I will be without my baby for a week or so,
