Hi guys.

I have one of the 13" Unibody Macbooks, purchased in 2008. Recently i've noticed the touchpad isn't as easy to click, i.e it has to be pressed quite hard to get it to register.

I'm assuming that after thousands of presses it's just getting old and needing replaced. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what an Apple Store is likely to charge for something like that, so that I can go prepared?

Thanks in advance.

Before you replace it, try and adjust it. There's a T6 screw at the bottom of it where you can adjust the feel.

Can't remember how easy it is to get to on a MacBook but I don't think it's too hard, battery out though so you'd need a funny screwdriver.

To be honest they would quite likely try that first and not charge :)

I had very similar things happen to me over the past two months...

My track pad wasn't working properly, it kept thinking I'd removed my finger when dragging things across the desktop which of course I hadn't. Okay so this isn't the same as what you're experiencing but when I took it in to the apple store they said you can alter the click of the trackpad (as Pardonthewait has said) using a screwdriver.

My new trackpad was about £35 and about £20 labour which came to £0 with AppleCare :p

As for the battery, it's about £101 to replace, and I don't think it is covered by warranty. Even though it says to be replaced it can last for a while. Mine moves from service to normal as it is on the border of normal and "used". Only if it's corrupted will they replace it.

Hope that helps

I have the extended Applecare, but I believe it's 3 years? That would put it out of warranty sadly.

The battery warning went away after a bit, it's a shame as I always try and look after the battery by not overcharging it, letting it fully discharge etc. but then is four years about right with regular use?

I have the same MacBook unibody alu as you, battery health always shows it as being good/healthy. Doesn't mean it lasts that long without being plugged in. :o

I still get 3-4 hours! ;)

Same, always careful when I charge and when I do t charge... The result is an almost 3 year MBP (2months warranty left) that has almost 4 hours battery. Which is nowhere near the capacity it once was (6hohrs atleast) but I'm not grumbling at 4 hours for its age.

Down to 83% of its original capacity.
