A colleague of mine a while back used a piece of software that allowed him to track his MacBook through whatever means possible if it was stolen. A bit like the MobileMe 'Find my iPhone' feature, except offered by a 3rd party.

Does anyone know the name of this software? Have searched the forums, but to no avail.

Cheers!

Nice low tech solution.

PC version of CompuTrace is pretty clever. Uses embedded code in the BIOS of most 1st tier OEM laptops to repair the software agent, so even if the HDD get wipes or replaced entirely it reinstalls the agent without making the user aware. As soon as the PC gets an internet connection it phones home with the option to delete the data and flash up a nice message.

Mac version doesn't have the firmware self-repair yet, but they're "working on it" ...
