MacBook turning off randomly

My MacBook is randomly turning off a few times a day now Has anyone else had this? I've had mine since release, so i assume this is one of the joys of buying new kit?
Is there anything to look at, or is this a return to Apple problem? (i assume it is).

This seems to be an issue with some of the earlier Macbooks, afaik it means sending it off to Apple for a new motherboard

It needs a new case anyway (going yellow!) so i guess they can replace most of the machine for me

Have to got all the latest SMC updates etc? The firmware ones I mean?

Yeah mine just started doing the random shutdown thing (about twice) and then Apple came out with the SMC update and I haven't seen it since (touch wood )

I'm also going to have to treck to an Apple Store to get the case fixed and the backlight sorted out (it's started flickering as quite a few other people on the web have experience) as well

I thought they released a statement regarding all the old Macbooks with the colouring issues...

Free case repair (involved changing the screen bezel and bit around the keyboard AFAIK), but it was a while back so I don't know if there was a deadline. I shouldn't think so
