Macbook unibody keyboard not working

Seems to be something severely wrong; keyboard will only type in numbers/characters, stuck on caps lock, unresponsive (at times) trackpad.

Plugged in an external keyboard and that works OK it seems, any idea what the problem could be?

Have you tried making a separate partition and installing a fresh copy of OS X on there, just to rule out any software problems? Because it does sound like it could be an extremely weird software problem!
 
I think my 08 MBP might be doing something similar. Every now and then the keyboard and trackpad become totally unresponsive. The machine is still running but I'm just unable to do anything other than turn it off using the power button. I'm running OSX Lion btw. Ordered an SSD recently which I should get tomorrow so I'll do a fresh install and see what happens. The drive in my machine has some bad sectors and has been in the machine for 4 years.

If I find anything out I'll post back.
