Macbook version question

I keep considering getting a Mac of some kind so I can learn about them.
I found an Apple reseller selling ex demo macbooks with the following spec:
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
2GB of 1066MHz RAM, with support up to 4GB
250GB Serial ATA, 5400rpm Hard Drive & 8x Slot-Loading Superdrive
NVidia GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB memory

Is this likely to be the current macbook or previous generation, and if so, does it make much difference?
Which version of OSX is likely to have?
They are £600 does this seem a fair price? Have about 6 mths warranty left.

Finally, I would want to connect to an external monitor, which is the 27" Hanns-G which is only HDMI - can you get a suitable cable for the macbook?

Thanks for the replies. I did not realise the new Macbooks were also now aluminium, I thought it was just the Pros that were.
Not too worried as likely to be mainly used around house.

Unfortunately way past HE discount age..! Unless it includes OU courses?

I assume Macbooks take standard SATA 2.5" drives?
I have a Windows laptop with a new 320Gb Scorpio drive which I thought I could put in if I buy a Mac?
Also, any ideas if the 2Gb memory is normally 1 x 2Gb or 2x 1Gb?

Well, thank you for all the replies.
I have now purchased my first Mac, but not a Macbook....
Ended up going the whole way and came away with a shiny new 27" iMac

Think there is some learning to do but so far so good!
