Macbook vs windows laptop, but not the usual questions

Without wanting to get stuck in the usual arguments about mac vs windows, i'd like some insights into a more specific question.

I'm looking for a 'new' second-hand laptop, willing to spend £500ish, and my only real power need is to edit some 1080p DSLR footage. Although the specs of a windows laptop will considerably exceed those of a macbook for the same given price, some reading around tells me that when it comes to video editing macs perform comparably to much higher spec'd windows laptops. Seems to be due to how well final cut and macOS work together.

What I want to know is this true and does it mean that if I spend £500 on a macbook with a 2nd gen i5 and integrated graphics, it'll do fine. Have any you had any experience with this?

Thanks.
