Hello,

I'm just trying to figure out a problem with my current Macbook White + new Dell U2412m combination, and would really appreciate your help.

I love the monitor generally - really good image quality and looks very smart as well. The problem is this vertical banding which appears on solid blocks of colour:

Look at the third block from the left of each colour. That's what the vertical banding looks like, wherever it appears. (The fine lines towards the right are just moiré effects) To put the size in perspective, in the third block of each colour above that has the banding, each bright/dark band is about 2 pixels wide.

It seems to depend not on the colour but the darkness of the solid patch. For example, the OcUK forum blue has the same vertical banding at the moment, whereas the bright-ish grey text input box doesn't. And again, it's the same 2 pixels-wide vertical bands that alternaties beween the correct colour and a slightly darker colour.

The other funny thing is that the colour affected by the banding changes depending on the contrast setting - for example, in an LCD test pattern like above, it might be something like:

Contrast setting 72: Box 1, 4 and 10 have the banding
Contrast setting 73: Box 2, 3 and 8 have the banding
and so on.

I'm thinking it's likely to be the monitor, but could it be the Macbook? I just need to know which part is faulty so that I could change/return it, and clearly something is definitely not right.

Would be grateful for your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks.
