Macbook white screen

Hi - literally got my macbook few days ago.

Now I have been on it for a day or two and sometimes when I turn it on (around 40% of time) I just get a blank white screen and the cooling fan goes onto 100% it sounds like. I have to shut it off by holding down the button then turn it back on again.

The other more mintor thing is a random pop coming from my external speakers but this might just be the sound coming in and out of power saving I don't know - every 2-5 minutes. Sometimes longer, a bit random. The speakers are old and took a fall the other day (that and the fact that they're very cheap logitech ones).

Can anyone help?

Unplugging HDD seems to stop white screen I think. Will keep eye on.

I think sound is my static building up and being released by my speakers as I don't have this issue with my parents speakers on my macbook. Having said that they are quite low standard 2.0s - I really don't know. I foudn this thread and it got me slightly worried - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6741973

Thinking of getting some smaller 2.0 speakers to use - was thinking about getting some of these? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-107-CL&groupid=702&catid=22&subcat=719
