I've recently acquired an old Macbook. The owner before me never bothered to update the operating system, so it's still running on Snow Leopard.
I've never had a mac before and wondered what the first steps would be in getting it fit for gaming? I can get Mavericks OS for free - is that the best option?

Google tells me its original spec was: Intel Core 2 Duo 2,26 GHz L2 3MB
2GB SDRAM DDR3 1066 MHz
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB de SDRAM DDR3(shared)
Hard Drive Serial ATA 250 GB 5400 rpm

Would 9400M really be enough for Steam games like DoDs?

If you want to update the OS, you have to do it through the app store. Mavericks is free though. I downloaded it and stopped it from installing then made a bootable USB using lion disk maker.

Yeah I went on thinking I'd just pay whatever for the latest OS but saw it was free and runs on machines from as early as 2008 apparently. So do you actually use yours for any gaming?

I use ASUS 6670 for my main PC so no worries there. Thought there might be a magical way of having similar on Mac that I'd failed to spot while trawling through Google.

Guess I'll have do work and other dull activities when I'm on the go.

How's the GTX 670? Surprised to hear mixed reviews about it as it's pretty expensive.
