Right so tomorrow is the big day when im going to the apple store in town and get my HE discounted Macbookpro. I must say im pretty excited!! (first ever mac after 2 years of eyeing up my mates one) But i need to decide on one important bit, is the 9600gt really worth the extra cash in the 15 inch one?

And in the same vein, how much better is the 17 inch one again? (ie is it worth the extra £250?)

Basically its my complete pc replacement, so both laptop and desktop, to do some uni work and play games on :)

Graphics card really depends on you and what type of games you play. That's vague but if you're playing Counter-Strike Source and Football Manager, you're not going to need the meatiest graphics card you can buy.

The 17 inch is a really nice machine - the real estate in the screen is also really nice. It is big money in my opinion but if it's 'a complete pc replacement' then having it as an option makes sense. Again this depends on what you want to do with it and what your Uni work entails (if it's graphics design, you may want the extra real estate for graphics toolbars, if it's for writing stuff in Word, you'll be fine on a 15").

One thing I will say is that the 17" doesn't offer portability, I found my 15" to be less than ideal for portability but it wasn't too bad (this was a few years ago, the machines have since got lighter and thinner).

You can't really go wrong with a MacBook Pro at the end of the day. Enjoy your trip to Victoria Square. :p

Ah cheers, im mainly planning on playing left 4 dead, civ4 and a bit of dod source (so im really asking if the 9400 can do smoke textures properly? (my current laptop just cant and it makes most games fall apart).

Yeah I only do politics which is mostly reading and typing so I dont think i could genuinly justify the 17 inch (though ill have a look in store anyway just in case in real life it looks too good to be true). Plus if i get the adaptor i can plug it into my monitor for a bigger screen anyway

I doubt portability will be too much of an issue, my mates older 15inch pro seems to cause him minimal problems either way...

Ah thanks! I love going there (though usually its just to eye up the macbooks...) :D

Just one thing- Snow Leopard will make greater use of the accelerated graphics chip.

I am not a gamer but went for the 2.66 model.

Can i just ask how much discount do you get through the HE store? I've left uni but my girlfriend is about to start a part time course which i may take advantage of :)

Yeah iv just gotten back from the apple store :D

Well i got the 15 inch pro with the the secondary 9600, the display port to dvi adaptor and a 16gig touch for the rebate! :D (note extra smiley faces as im very excited!!)

Only one question though, do they automatically register apple care for you?

Anyway im off to pre order snow-leopard and set this up! :D

Oh yeah and bennie the discount is a few hundred quid, heres the thread with the prices http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18020062 and you get apple care (3 years) for about £60 (as well as £140 off an ipod) which i cant complain at!

One more thing, :D:D:D

Nice, you'll love it :)

I got the same except no display port adaptor and an iPod Mini (Which my bro is having), Love the MBP itself, but can never have a proper play with it, as the GF is always on it :(

HE discount is 15% :) I think in the sticky at the top of this page some kind fellow has screen grabbed the discounted prices.

Still loving my 15" 2.8GHz. I didn't really *need* the 9600 graphics, but figured I'd take the larger hard drive and CPU boost for the price.

I'm still missing the trusty Windows 'Delete' key though (I know it's Fn + Backspace on the Mac, but extra keystroke, meh!), and also 'Restore' function from Recycle Bin (i.e. Trash). :p

Not to hog the thread or anything, but that feature will be available in Snow Leopard. :D

Oooo will it! probably one of the tiny things iv noticed in my day of learning osx...

Got to hand it to Bes, hes right, i do love it! Cant belive iv gone so long with out one. :D (its pretty hard to put into words whats so awesome about it all together but it just is!)

Just got to try out boot camp at some point...
