With home networks being pretty much everyday things these days (especially, I imagine, with the members of forums such as these), there are probably countless conventions for naming machines on a network - so, what are yours?
I've seen various things like computers named after gods of the greek/norse/roman pantheons, Star Trek ship names, different breeds of hamster (I kid you not).
Personally I have an HTPC, a laptop running as a print/backup server, a desktop and two laptops (my own and partner's). Our naming system is pretty boring really, having a somewhat IT illiterate partner they've got cutesy names which at least give her a rough idea of what computer I'm talking about - so the desktop is "Desky", my laptop is "Latty" (Dell Latitude D620), her laptop is "Tabby" (Lenovo X60 Tablet), HTPC is "Mousey" cos it squeaks while booting, so on and so forth
Over to you - interested to hear as I may be changing the server name convention at work soon
