Hi,

I have been given a machine from my mate its spec is as follow:

Intel Quad Core 2.66
NVidia GEforce 8800 GTX
Creative Xfi Sound Card
2 GB Ram
Win XP
ASUS P5n32-e SLI Motherboard
Coolmaster Case

The machine however is prone to just shutting down and I am trying to work out whether its mboard/graphics or everything.....

I've ran Riva Tuner to get fans on graphics card going

Idle Temp
CPU 80
GPU 71

During a Game (Stanglehold)
CPU 95
GPU 80

The bios is all set to the default what should I look to do next please, any help is very welcomed. The bios has something called extreme tweaker which I have never seen before also dont have the actual motherboard drivers and cant get them from the ASUS site at the mo.

Well if those temps are correct then its shutting sown becbause the CPU is overheating, 95 degrees under load is basically killing it.

Reseat the cooler and check that its fan is actually spinning

Also check in your bios to make sure everything is on auto, you could be frying it with too much voltage, if in doubt remove the mobo battery to reset the cmos

The GPU also seems very hot on idle, check its fan for dust etc

This is going to sound stupid but how do I reset the cooler, I have opened case and saw the fan on top of the processor but cant see how to take it off...

has it got four screw like attachments around the outside? you just stick a screwdriver in and turn them as indicated by the arrows and then the cooler will pop off. I'd hazard a guess and say it isn't touching the processor all over (not sitting square down). when you take it off, be careful with the thermal past stuff, turn the screws back, then remount it, making sure the pushpins click through the motherboard and then you will be fine! Make sure of course it's sitting flush, and is secure. job done....enjoy a pc that works for longer than 10 mins

Cheers for advice, looking at heatsink there is a lot of dust so when I manage to remove it will give it a good clean and see what happens from there.
