I currently use a nice simple "Ez8" ADAT card in my 2*G4. It does 8*48kHz 24 bits optical in and out to my digital mixer.

Are there any card that are compatible with the MacPro that do similarly simple optical ? I don't need all the other IOs that come with most cards (SPDIF etc), the mixer does that a hell of a lot better. I just want raw optical in/out...

Any pointer ?

Do you have a rough budget?

I'd be tempted to go for something by RME. The 9632 is an amazing interface but does come with those extra connections that you say you dont want. Amazing specs, but a bit pricey at nearly £300.

Out of interest, what digital desk do you have. Do you not require word clock funtionality from the soundcard to the desk? :)

I use an Ezbus; discontinued now, but it's great and give me all the IOs I could possibly need...
It does support world clock, but it's also able to sync to whatever rate the soundcard is spewing (within limits). By default it is clock master.

I wrote the driver for the Mac EZ8 originaly, thats another reason I'm bitching about not having 5V slots in the MacPro :-)

One alternative would be a PC 3.3V card that has a linux driver and/or a datasheet for the chipset, I wouldn't mind writing a driver again and/or porting it. I had made pretty cool changes to have "virtual" interfaces that presents pairs of channels to the OSx apps... or all of the 8 ones...

Oh and neat VU meters in the dock :D

surly the mac pro has optical input/outs built into the speaker and mic jacks? like the macbooks

an ADAT Bridge?... I find your really limited to top end stuff on MP, otherwise your going o be looking for USB/Firewire solutions.
