Hi all,

I've shot and equipped myself for landscape photography, sports, longer focal length stuff but haven't delved into macro before and really would like to for insects, flowers, and the smaller things in life etc..

So as a beginner to macro photography which lens would be a good one to start with?

I don't mind paying around £300 to get started with a lens.

Would the Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM Lens be a good choice for me? Camera body is a Canon 700D.

I'm in the same situation as you and tbh, when I finally get the cash, I'll just be going for the 100m f2.8 L Macro - considering the price of the lens and your budget, it seems best to up the budget slightly and do a 'proper job'.

Edit: It seems the rainforest price has gone up since I last checked. It's your call. Also consider the 135mm which on Digital Rev had a good review (however again its now getting to double your budget and more)

Go for an off brand 100 /105mm macro lens and i doubt you'll be disappointed. That's speaking as someone who had the Canon 100mm non-L and currently uses L version.
