Cheers for the comments folks.
I was playing with the pup when I got home from work and I noticed it on the window sill. It was really docile, didn't take off when I prodded it so got the camera. It crawled up a white box I had sitting there so the first shot is actually rotated.

Edit: Fstop11, haven't a clue, looks like some form of hoverfly but haven't seen one quite like that before.
