Macs and Wifi?

Had this since I bought my MacBook in 2008. At Uni it would take fiddling with the wireless to get it to connect despite it reporting strong signal. Other times it would forget passwords.

When I got my Airport Extreme it stopped doing it for a while (!) but now I'm on a HH5 it's back again. Strong signal reported, but won't connect without some considerable persistence on my part.

I find my iPhones have always been (sort of) the same, it can report full signal yet won't load any pages and struggles to attain an IP.

I just learnt to live with it tbh.

Ifoubd the signal strength wasn't an issue, it was how many other routers(signals) on the same channel. The result was either unable to obtain IP addres or invalid password.

Setting the router to a quieter channel solved it every time.

I have this problem on my Macbook Air too. Takes ages to connect when i open the lid, or it connects straight away if i turn the wifi off and on again

Either that, or the software was displaying significantly more signal than was really being picked up. I am not sure if it's true, but I read that is what they did the "fix" the iPhone 4 signal problems with a firmware update.

My rMBP and gfs MBP & iPhone 4S all have this issue. Happens on different routers and inconsistently which is annoying. My rMBP works fine at the office on an old style Airport Extreme though (100% of the time). Very odd, hopefully moving away from the ISP Zyxel modem at home will improve things. 10.9.4 on all MB's btw.

So, after much faffing, I deleted the com.apple.Bluetooth preferences file after reading about a possible issue with corrupted prefs... Restarted and its sorted :)

This happens all the time on my rMBP (late 2013). If its been closed for longer than about 10 mins it takes about 15-20 seconds to reconnect the the WiFi when opened, admittedly a BT Home Hub 3.

It is rather annoying.
