Mad Cheap Eyefinity

Hey, I realised the other day that I had 3 flatscreen monitors. Unfortunately they are all different resolutions, but I thought never mind, let's give it a go anyway!

Off to ebay I went, and ordered a displayport to VGA adapter for the princely sum of £9.50.

It arrived this morning, I plugged them in, set up Eyefinity in CCC, (defaulted to 1440x900 on each monitor because that's the highest res of the 17"), opened up Crysis, chose the res and away it went!

The main reason I got it was because I plan to get another 22" for working with, and just wanted to prove it would work before buying it, so used the 17", then thought about trying eyefinity. :)

The monitors really do need to match though. The colours don't match, the images don't line up and the image quality on a 28" at 1440x900 is pretty awful. My eyes hurt from the 5 minutes I played it. :p

Anyway, it works.

Yup :) it's only display port to dvi that needs an active adapter, all you need is one monitor with a VGA port then it's happy days :)

I was considoring getting two more 28"s and doing it that way, but IMO they're just too big. A single one is perfect I find.

It was an interesting experiment but I think the ideal setup would be 3 120hz 24"s. Higher pixel density too. :)
