I recently bought a 2011 13" macbook pro, which very nice but now ideally i need a Linux machine, I have used it in a virtual machine but its not ideal, I cannot dual boot as the wifi on the mac dont work, would I be crackers to sell this, get something like the new dell xps 15z, and put linux on it?

Depends how much you'd miss your mac, would a cheapy £150 2nd hand laptop suffice for the linux machine? If you're not going to miss it and don't specifically require OSX then it seems the right choice.

Dont really want to go down the 2nd machine route, i want something built as well as mac with a good battery, possibly better screen res and the 15z fits the bill.

Why doesn't your wifi work? If it's a 2011 then get it fixed as it's still under warranty. Or do you mean it doesn't work with linux?

What is it that you need a linux machine for? I can't think of anything that you can't do on a mac that you can do on linux, they are based on the same platform after all.

Wifi works fine on the Mac, there are no native Linux drivers out for it at the moment.
My job involved a lot of interaction with linux/Aix/unix stuff, and whilst OSx is similar, If i decide to go down the certification route it would make sense to go the whole hog and run it alone, theres nothing tying me to OSx, I have an android phone so all my stuff is done via google and the cloud.
