Hi,

I'm kind of just looking for some reassurance as i have just ordered my very first mac.

I have chosen the Macbook Pro 15", It has the upgraded 256mb gfxs card, 1gb of ram and 100gb HD.

There is one worrying factor with all this, i am selling my Windows rig to cover the costs, am i going to regret this??

The main reason for changing was that i'm moving around the country a lot more and need something mobile but still powerfull. Are they as powerful as people make out, will i still be able to run photoshop, dreamweaver, Autocad etc at a fast speed.

The final question is will it match the speed of my windows rig?? Specs below :

AMD 3700+ 1mb cache
1gb Corsair Ballistix
X1800XT 256mb
X-FI Fatality
40 + 200 gb Maxtor IDE

Cheers

A very worried Mike

Well... if you're like me, you might worry for a bit but after using OS X for a while you'll be firmly a Mac fan.

Note though, that Dreamweaver, Photoshop are not yet universal programs and won't run at the fastest that the computer could run them (if you see what I mean). New versions, scheduled to appear next year, should fly!

I don't think you can get AutoCAD for Mac. Will you be running this under Boot Camp in Windows XP? Should be pretty quick.

I was slightly worried about the slower 5400rpm hard disk speed but after conducting some tests, it is not that much slower than my PC's 7200rpm. Indeed, my little mini is at the desktop and ready to use in half the time it takes for my PC to get Windows XP up and logged in.

ye i was looking at bootcamp for some of the lighting desk software i use and autocad. Would prefer to say goodbye to windows forever but i doudt that is ever going to happen.

Whats the windows performance like?

Oh another thing, has anyone ever dealt with mac refurbs because that is what i ordered. Are they still as good as new?

It's absolutely fine on my mini. And your Macbook Pro will have a dedicated video card so it will be better still. You're getting the Intel Core Duo which will be an improvement over the single-core Athlon.

Cheers for your help

May gain me a few more hours of sleep, lol.

Just worried about getting it from the refurb section on the mac store, got a year warranty so should be fine.
