Mafia 2 any good?

Really enjoying this game as well currently on chapter 8, bargain for £5.

Physx isn't all that good in this game imo.. I get a steady 60 fps with it off and when its on medium that drops to low 40's so it really isn't worth the performance hit.

This is using a 580, seems to want its own dedicated physx card to run smoothly, which just isn't worth it.

really compelling storyline, which to me is the most important aspect of a game, closely followed by length which this game completely lacks.

they got greedy with all the dlc they're bringing out - they could've just released it with a lot of the dlc content and made it a fantastically awesome uberific game... but it's just good, not great.

worth a 5er tho easily :)

In terms of the game play and graphics and atmosphere etc. its a great sequel to the original. In terms of the general story and the way it progresses, *slightly* less so, but it's still very good.

However, it is SO short I actually laughed out loud when I had suddenly completed the main story, and as has been said, it has almost no replay value. I bought one of the DLCs out of frustration (what they want i guess) but the fact there are no cut scenes for missions etc. has meant I have just kind of lost interest, certainly won't be buying any more, and i imagine that's it for the game.

It's ok, and well worth it for a fiver, but don't get too attached, you'll soon be finished with it!

I managed to get 15 hours out of Mafia 2, according to steam at least. Putting it on the highest difficulty setting and cars on simulation surely helped that.

All this hoo-ha about the DLC and it should have been in the game etc etc, Joe's Adventures is the only thing that's actually been halfway towards content. The rest was hats, jackets and cars that I wouldn't have thought fitted into the story at all.
Vito running around in a cowboy hat, or using a jeep that he magically hid in his duffle bag when he came back from the army? I think not.

I would love to see a proper "expansion" for it, some sort of DLC that extended the core game.

ps being able to shoot out of the car window like in Mafia would be a nice "throwback"

There's probably 10-12 hours in the full game, that's probably worth the fiver I paid. But a lot of that time is spent watching cut scenes, driving from A-B or other menial tasks. There might be some replay value to get all the collectables and acheivements if you are that way inclined, but I wouldn't pay anymore than a fiver for it.

There's also a lack of consistency in the graphics, sometimes the game looks superb and other times it just looks very very average. Some of the characters faces in cut scenes aren't as detailed as others and the amount of pop up in the game is as bad as GTA Vice City, with no way of increasing the draw distance that I can find.

I completed this in about 8 hours taking it fairly steady.

I'm just playing through it again, I don't feel it's a bad game per say, it's just very lack luster, this game could have been amazing, it had the potentional to be a fantastic game.

I don't think it's as good as the original, nor any of the Grand Theft Auto games, only thing it has going for it is the setting.

This really was supposed to be the game of the year..and if it contained everything that was planned, it would be. Originally you should have had the ability to choose what family to join, make decisions in storyline (4 different endings), melee weapons were in, many sidemissions (both fullblown and incidental like the one with prostitute), chapters were longer (the first in Italy was actually supposed to be 4 missions instead of one) etc...

but unfortunately 2K Czech were unable to finish all the content on time and Take 2 were unwilling to provide anymore time, so the game got butchered.

Now, it is still great game, but it really should have been GOTY.

wow would have been awesome if they included all that stuff

my main problem with the gameplay was the fighting sections

need to refine that and the gameplay would have been a lot better
