Well the Mafia 2 demo is now out on Steam. Everyone please post your results of the benchmark - i'm waiting to order either a GTX460 or GTX470 for this game and i'm desperate to know how it runs!

I think 1920x1080 4xAA 16xAF results would be nice, as that seems to be a 'sweet spot' setting for a lot of people, but of course feel free to bench at any resolution/settings you want :)

**PLEASE NOTE, YOU WILL HAVE TO RESTART THE GAME AFTER CHANGING SETTINGS FOR THEM TO TAKE EFFECT**

**PHYSX**

If you are having problems with PhysX please try this suggestion from 'kitch9'

Uninstall Physx from Control Panel.

Go to Mafia 2 folder in Steamapps folder and manually install the Physx SS in there.

Go to Nvidia control panel and set Physx mode to CPU only, hit apply, set Physx mode to auto and hit apply.

Voila'

If there is an in-game benchmark, I will happily run it for you at 1680x1050, max, 4xAA/16xAF.

BTW, I was the first to inform!

The benchmark is in the options.

Not sure what you mean about the first to inform, do you want this thread deleted so you can start one or something?

First post i read about the demo here was by SkeeterUK an hour ago, so he has you beat by 45 minutes mate :)

EDIT: beaten again by Skeeter, I hate that guy!

Haha :) Nice results there mate, it doesn't seem to be as much of a system hog as i had feared.

Here is my mighty 8600GT! CPU is back at stock because i was messing with the bios last night, not that it'll be bottlenecking the card anyway lol

I have to say i'm hugely suprised the game runs AT ALL on such a crappy card with only 256MB memory. I'm certain that there must be a bug in there somewhere and the game is not actually using all the options i have selected. It looks good though, and would probably be somewhat playable at lower resolution!

If there is no bug going on then this has to be one of the best optimised engines i have ever seen in my life.

I just ran the demo and god this game looks bad!

Seriously, they take this amount of horsepower and produce something that is visually far worse than left for dead 1??

It's smelling of vantage, lots of technically advanced effects but somewhere along the line someone forget to make the graphics actually look good!

Personally i think the game looks really nice. It's not Crysis but it works for me, the artwork is very good. Not to mention that the engine is incredibly well optimised!

More importantly, it has brought back that old Mafia feeling :) Can't wait for a new GPU and the full game now.

K, I've got Physx working on the GPU, here's what I did, I'm not sure what got it work out of these steps, but it did.

Uninstall Physx from Control Panel.

Go to Mafia 2 folder in Steamapps folder and manually install the Physx SS in there.

Go to Nvidia control panel and set Physx mode to CPU only, hit apply, set Physx mode to auto and hit apply.

Voila'

35fps on 2x overclocked 460's maxxed at 1080p instead of 10 in the refinery.........

Fluidmark now works again, and so does Batman.

Hey thanks a lot mate, i will add this info to the first post.

I do not think this is running right for me. Set everything om max, including Apex physx ( cloths look great :D), also AA on. The Benchmark looks great, but the actually demo... meh.... does not look like 1920x1080 in places. Noticably the far power lines and buildings.
When i reduce the resolution to check... the car changes, but the far thinsg don't. any ideas ?

Have you tried forcing different AA options through control panel? This is a brand new engine so it might take some fiddling. If it's uses deferred lighting that can cause issues with AA.

Actually thinking about it, it might be caused by some kind of distance blur effect. I'm thinking we might not have access to all the options in this demo, but i guess we'll have to wait and see.

I have to say i'm much more impressed by the Apex cloth simulations than i was expecting. Albeit at slideshow framerates on my poor 8600GT lol

I'm really looking forward to the World of Darkness MMO as well that will be using it:

I can understand peoples frustrations with the lack of OpenCL physics libraries, but i think ragging on PhysX has just gotten old now. Without TWIMTBP games you just wouldn't even have the option of these things. Implementing Physics like that is not a 5 minute job, and most developers simply wouldn't implement any fancy physics stuff on their own, it doesn't make commercial sense.

Until there are open libraries that people actually want to make good use of you are going to need money coming from somewhere to get these things done.

If you simply don't like or want PhysX, turn it off, end of story :)

EDIT: I still don't know how to embed a Youtube video on this forum properly, ******* nubcake that i am.
