Mafia 2 confirmed

Be interesting to see what they do with this. While I think Mafia is a good game, I don't spooge all over it the way some do and there is definitely room for improvement.

Hopefully they can make the driving sections a bit more fun, I remember the first time I played it back in 2002 I gave up on the game because I got fed up with all the taxi missions near the start. Picked it up again and played it through to the end 3 years later. Not a bad engine as the graphics still looked OK in 2005.

Yea I thought the graphics aged well.

SPOILERS!!

At the end we know he dies, I wonder what characters will make Mafia 2? Maybe it will do a road to perdition and Tommy's son will have a role or something?

Or a prequel, for when Morello and Salieri used to work together? maybe lead it to where they became enemies and stuff.

!!! MORE SPOILERS !!!

My memory is a little hazy but I seem to remember there being a couple of loose ends in the plot. There was some prostitute Tommy was supposed to bump off, he helped her escape. I felt sure that was gonna come back to bite him one day. Likewise with Frank flying off into the sunset.

To be fair I reckon your suggest about a son makes the most sense. They can't really do a prologue, because essentially the first part of Mafia teaches us that his life before the Family was pretty dull.

The other option would be to have a completely seperate storyline/city, maybe with the odd familiar face popping up like that Lucas Bertone car dealer.

Erm didn't they guy in the end mentioned that they found out about both of those?

Tommy's life was dull pre-salieri, however the idea of the prequel was to be part of the mafia that was under the reign of the don who had both salieri and morello under his wing, when morello and salieri were best friends.

That way you could play as Salieri or Morello, or possibly a third as-yet un-seen member of the mafia of that era, would be circa 1912 iirc.

Mafia was one of my all time fav games. The storyline/immersion was fantastic and as emotionally involving as you can get for a computer game. I really hope a sequel does the original justice. Please don't make it another Deus Ex 2 , heaven forbid...

Be interesting also to see what timeline they work off. I also hope its set just before or around the same as the original, not too many years into the future at least

Excellent game, hope the 2nd one does actually arrive - I remember talk of it years ago, but had seen nothing.

Scort.

I loved the story in Mafia - the voice acting was absolutely spot on, especially from the three main characters.

If you look on IMDB, a few of them are in "Sopranos" (Voice of Paulie, and the voice of Sam). Also, it appears that the voice of Tommy is done by Mike Sorvino, bother of Mira Sorvino.

Loved the ending, especially the final twisting moments.

Some quality missions too - the bank raid was one of my favourites, along with the Sniper and the gun fight in the church.

Fantastic game...if this sequel is only 80% as good, it'll still be fantastic. But it has a lot to live up to. And PLEASE don't make it modern era! 1950's ***.
spot on no need to say any more

I've noticed that the picture on the Tiscali site of the (supposed) Mafia2 logo shows a 'dame' with period clothing and a TommyGun, so I guess they're sticking to the same era.

I'd also like to make a point about how excellent the music was in Mafia - the theme tune was absolutely spot on. Also features tracks from The Mills Brothers and Louis Armstrong.

I don't think a prequel is going to happen, unless they've managed to do something spectacularly playable with horse-drawn carriages ;)

This is great news, though. There was something about the original that was just special; it's not often that a game elicits such an emotional response from a player base, and it was a credit to the entire development team.

While I'd be delighted with more of the same pre-war era, I reckon a Fifties-and-Sixties-based mafia game - including a trip to Vegas in a tip of the hat to Casino - has real potential too. :)

We'll see soon, once the trailer hits. Can't wait!
