Mafia II, what next?

Alpha Protocol if you can get it cheap is pretty good game.

Maybe check the Splinter Cell games too or Hitman games.

Alpha protocol is good, I've played it and will be getting again as I sold the PS3 with it.

Almost completed the latest Splinter Cell but got slightly bored towards the end. The first one was class. I have the Chaos Theory but it won't work under Windows 7(64bit) unfortunately.

I have Hitman - Blood money, never got swept away with the previous ones but will give this one a bash sometime.

Cheers

I ran Chaos theory fine under vista x64, what's wrong with 7?

Just comes up with a message to the effect of this game is not compatible with this OS (when you try to run it, after install) then Windows tries to find a solution(which it never does) and obviously didn't find one.

Might have a bit play around with compatibility settings at some stage.

Have you played it? If so how do you rate it? Is it better than the latest one? The first one? Etc...

Batman AA is a superb game and you can use a pad with it

This game is another example of superior programming, brilliant production values, controls, graphics, acting, atmosphere the lot. The story hasn't really dragged me in though.

Got quite far into it, then came across 4 guards in a hospital full of psychiatrists and got stuck, the enemy AI was so uneven that as soon as you took 1 out the others were onto you in a flash(not like a similar level at the start). This irritated me so I didn't go back to it. Brilliant up till then.

Cheers

It's my favourite after the first one, I've liked all the ones I've played but I've not touched conviction.

I suspected this, it is highly rated. Very disappointed it didn't work. You have give me something to mess about with as I really want to play this.

What I can't understand is why Ubisoft didn't release a patch for Windows 7. It's a big company and this is almost a triple A title, as far as I remember they only released one patch and then forgot about the game.

Thats just not British, and very unprofessional in my opinion(especially as this game is still selling I suspect). I will however try my best to get it going.

Mafia 1 is probably the closest to Mafia 2...of course. The former is miles better but that is if you can get past the graphics then it's worth a play. I assume you don't care too much about graphics since you mentioned you playing ps2 games too. Warriors on the ps2 is a good game which I thoroughly enjoyed. Also check out Second Sight for ps2/

Don't play the DLC for Mafia 2 as they are pathetic. Although not similar, the Hitman series as mentioned is brilliant :)

My only concern with Mafia is the controls, there seems to be tons! I have xPadder so will try to map all the ones that I can play the game with on my xbox pad.

Well, I think San Andreas is was brilliant on the PS2, and to be honest it is a brilliant little console, I have two in case one breaks. I think I might have Second Sight, I know I was trying to get it on the cheap. The only problem with the PS2 mind(and it's a problem with the PS3 imo) is the pad. I much prefer the Gamecube and more recently the 360 pad.

Good to hear you enjoyed The Warriors as I suspect it could be another gem that slipped through my radar. Loved the movie, I thought the Wanderers was better but don't think it would make a better game.

Thanks for the tip regarding Mafia 2 DLC, I am in a bit of a dilemma as to download it or not, I think I'll wait for the price to drop though.

Thanks

The mafia controls are pretty much like the mafia 2. Do download the graphics patch for it too.
Indeed, I think the 360 pad is better overall except maybe for sport games. The Mafia 2 DLCs feels like timed side missions throughout the whole time. If you don't mind driving around all the time, then it's worth a shot :)

While Mafia 2 is a great game and experience, it is not a masterpiece like Mafia 1.

Mafia 1 had one of the best endings in history of games, not to mention that every mission there is memorable - EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

Well just got Saboteur for £5.49, after researching to make sure my system will run it smoothly, it should by the looks of it, if it doesn't then I haven't wasted much.

However, I will try to set-up Mafia with the same or similar control set-up as I had for Mafia II (360 controller), if I can then it seems I will not touch another game until I complete it.

Thanks for everyone's input :)

Uh how dare you! Mafia 1 is miles better than mafia 2! and yes i also loved mafia 2.
And yes you can use the xbox 360 controller in game and its easy to set up.

Get it at once!

I enjoyed Mafia 2 if I ignored the fact it cost £30 at the time and then they decided to release content as paid for DLC which should have been in the game from the beginning, Jimmy's **** take and Joe's New Clothes or whatever the Hell, but yeah, I was very disappointed with the fact that they made this great looking city and then proceeded to fill it with nothing but air. There's very few shops you can go in, and the games insistence on randomly changing your clothes for no apparent reason means that visiting clothes shops is pointless, and over the course of the entire story mode I never had to buy a single weapon apart from in one of the early hand holding missions so that basically leaves you with nothing else to do apart from drive around aimlessly, or do missions which advance the story. Hell, even taxi missions would've been good, it's as if GTA3 never existed.

There is a program that I use that is like Xpadder but better. Its called pinnacle game profiler, the reason its better is they have official game profiles that you can just download and the buttons are all set up for you. they also have user profiles that people have made and uploaded.
This takes all the PITA messing about setting buttons up out of it.
The official pinnacle button setups are always spot-on and just like if they were meant to be like that.
You can try the free trial for a month and trust me you'll like it. Make sure you learn how to download the pins/button configs and it won't disapoint. Every game I have used it with runs perfect.
If you do try it and are having any problems with it pm me or post here and I'll help you with it.:)

Get the profiler here: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/

These are the profile pages just pick if you want official or user profiles (If there is a game you need a profile for just ask them on there forum): http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/forum/index.php

yeh I never ever bought a gun in this game, never did any side missions either lol

You guys are directly comparing it to GTA. This is not GTA it is more linear, the shops are there because well there shops, its not the shops fault that your house burns down and you lose everything, in fact that is more realistic.

What isn't realistic but is great is how you get to actually keep your cars in your garage and tune them up etc. iirc you just kept standard car parked outside your house in GTA 4 and kept changing it and never tuning it up with no incentive to get attached to it.

Mafia II is different to GTA, mainly more linear, and is better for it. The game isn't full of air, do as redrooster suggested, walk around and have a chat with its inhabitants, it's teaming with life, and more importantly SOUL.

I spent ages looking for a program like this and all I found were recommendations for xPadder. I paid £5.99 for it, it comes with no updates, if I lose the exe file I'm screwed as you can't create an account on the site(didn't know at the time) therefore the website doesn't know if you paid or not so you can't download it again, unless you pay again.

This looks far more professional and well supported. A bit pricey like, will try to get by with xPadder for now as most games I play now have native support. Might be handy for psychonauts though, I really want to play that and xPadder isn't ideal if i remember correctly.

Bookmarked.

Thanks redrooster
