Hi all,

I have my very first macbook pro coming soon. I've been using a loan laptop from work just to get used to Mavericks and what not.

I'm thinking I really need an external mouse. Just wondering what the apple magic mouse is like?

The trackpad itself is really great, but not for intricate photo touchups

so, is the magic mouse any good?

Thanks!

I find it's not quite as tall as I'd like but otherwise it's pretty good. You get the accuracy of mouse pointing combined with the gesture shortcuts from the touchpad. The gestures are different between the two though, generally the mouse uses one finger less for everything but it is configurable any way you'd like.

I came from a gaming mouse to a magic mouse. Took me a while to get used to.

Now i wouldn't be without it. Works flawlessly and the swipe gestures are great when browsing. The gestures don't work in windows if you use bootcamp.

I don't know about image editing, but I just can't use Final Cut Pro, or Screenflow without my MM, and it's side swiping and other gestures.

I keep my wrist flat on the desk and move it with my thumb and pinky, for hours on end. No issues or strain yet. :)

I use a MM in conjunction with a Macbook Air. Can't fault it and worth the cash if being expensed back to your company :p

Wouldn't use it for gaming though!

Besides the trackpad not a fan of Apple mice. Prefer gaming mice even though I'm not much of a gamer.

Will buck the trend and say that the MM is without a doubt the most uncomfortable mouse I have ever used. A gaming mouse and trackpad is a far better solution IMO.

Best thing is to go to an Apple Store and try.

I'm normally sitting on the sofa with my MBA 13" and use the track pad which I find fantastic along with the gestures I can't fault it, if the MM was slightly higher it might stop my palm from aching? It's a great bit of kit but not for me

Not tried the trackpad yet

I'm a MM fan, had a trackpad for a while, but never really got on with it for some reason. I think it may work more naturally with an iMac but with the MB Air I use the MM is perfect.

Best thing since slice bread... I use multiple monitors in all my set ups so I have a lot of screen real estate to cover. I tend to keep my setup as default as possible to stop me getting frustrated when using other machines as I end up trying to do functions that ain't setup but it's very customisable. It's like having a touchpad on top of a mouse.

It's not great on gaming that's click mad and I know a designer that use it on top of a Wacom bamboo... God knows how that's setup.

I got one half price from tesco a while ago and I find it ok, certainly an improvement over other mice but I find myself using the trackpad most of the time as its so much nicer. Personally I wouldn't pay full price for one but it might just be my one isn't set up right.

I really like the magic mouse. I've got two actually, one on my desk and one in the briefcase, as I feel rather lost without it.

It did take a bit of getting used to, coming from a Logitech, but I think the key is to not put your hand on it. The gestures are really useful too.

I've heard that the magic mouse was brilliant - bought one and hated it - but for me I prefer a PC mice with buttons and wheels i can feel - I purchased a Razer Orochi the mac's internal Bluetooth works fine and love it, down to personal preference I guess.

I love the Magic Mouse except for gaming, don't even bother, get yourself a nice gaming mouse :).
