Does anyone here play this? I'm looking to start playing some Magic online (I used to play Apprentice, but it was rather annoying having to do everything yourself, and trust the opponent to follow all the rules properly, and disputes weren't easily fixed), and I'm wondering what sort of players I would find online.
I only play casually with a couple of friends, and wouldn't be interested in spending loads of money on entering things like tournaments, as from what I can tell, most poeple copy+paste strong decks, so you end up with lots of people using similar decks, and someone who hasn't spent as much on cards is at a disadvantage. Sealed deck tournaments and ones like that would be good if they exist.

And is it worth it? You spend the money online, which costs the same as buying the physical decks, but just get some graphics for it, unless you manage to get a complete set, which isn't going to be easy.
But then again, its much easier to play a game, since there will always be people online, you won't always be playing against the same person with the same deck...

So, if anyone out there plays, is it any good?

I'd be interested in hearing what it's like too. Loved the card game, but we always ended up fighting over the fine points of the rules. Don't really want to know if it's mega hard core ultra serious players all over the place though.

Sealed deck is the way forward. It's the only way to make it fair.

In Babylon 5, our group used to choose our decks, then swap them around randomly so we usually ended up with someone elses, and then playing a 60 minute game with it. Heh. was good for a laugh, unless you got league of Non Aligned Worlds, then it sucked :(

Edit: i realise this is completely OT. i was just reiterating my Sealed Deck comment.

you might want to check out http://www.poxnora.com

you can trade cards with other players , they let you sell your cards for real cash and the games are fought on a proper 2d battlefield with an isometric view where you control all your own cards

cards gain experience letting you upgrade the stats and abilities of the card aswell.

you can try it out for free aswell but need to buy your own card packs to play ranked games and customise the cards/decks.

i used to play along time ago and reached around 400 in the rankings which was pretty good :D

I used to play MTG online - it was very good.

The major thing I found it had going for it was that you can always find a player for a game of Magic (not so easy IRL!)

The major drawback, as mentioned by somebody else, is that you will always be at a disadvantage against players who have invested more money than you.

Same in reali life I guess but at least you can borrow decks from Mr Suitcase in real life. It was very polished when I played but it seemed to evolve too quick to keep buying the cards. I hated sealed deck too ever since getting creamed in a pro tour qualifier when I hadn't a clue how to build a deck in the format.

Shame they didn't go back and let you buy beta sets online and play type 1 tournaments they would be fun.
