Howdy folks,

I didn't see a big thread related to MTG, so I thought I'd start one - seems the kind of community where there would be some players, and figured a general, ongoing discussion might get some traction.

Are you a player? When did you start? What's your favourite format/set/card/deck etc?

I've played on and off since Stronghold dropped in 1998 (while I was still at school!). Have always been a fan of slivers. I only tend to play casually these days - Commander and a bit of Modern. Lorwyn, Shadowmoor and Innistrad blocks were my favourite in terms of theme and flavour. I haven't looked much into the new Aetherdrift set yet, but there are some interesting looking cards.

Around 2002, every week I went to the local shop's tournament with school mates who were a lot more into it than me, I played goblins. :D
Exams and uni put an end to that. Tried the pc game a few years back but it wasn't the same.

I purchased a commander deck and then spent about 400 quid buying various boxes of sets I liked the look of and then I stopped because I could see where that path was going to take me. I still have them all in folders and I initially used an app to scan them all in and some were saying they were worth £50+ but CBA to ever do anything with them.

Which did you try - MTG:O, or Arena?

Still have the list? Might be interested in purchasing if you just want them gone!

Yep, it can be one hell of a money sink - I don't buy anywhere near as much new product as I used to.

Started in 93, shortly after Unlimited and Revised has just come out. Yes, Black Lotus, Mox Sapphires, Time Walk, were still legal cards then (in two categories at least anyway, no longer these days). Stopped around Odyssey though (they went wild with releases and foil prints, etc), and not kept up since then (it was way too expensive to keep up to date from that point; it was the same with comics, market got flooded).

Aw man, that's amazing, I would have loved to play with some of those cards!

Started in 1999-2005 ish then stopped.
Main blocks I played/had/have is tempest, urza's and mecadian masques.
I need to find my rarest and foils...they should be worth some I guess lol

Masques was one of my favourite blocks, wish I still had some of those.

I was a keen EDH player 2014-2020, I’d play a couple times a week at places in London.

Covid hit, me and my friends had kids and my 8ish decks have been in the cupboard since.

I often think about selling my cards as they were worth a couple of grand at the time, but all the effort to catalog and list them puts me off (plus the hidden heartbreak of realising some cards I paid good money for are probably now pennies).

It will take me another 5 years to sort it, and by that time maybe/hopefully my son will be into it!

In the exact same position. Shame as my playgroup was large pre-covid but a lot lost interest after it. I shudder to think what I have lying in the cupboard. Would pain me to sell it all.

There's a massive thread on the second page?

Good to see the search function is working well. I actually used it!

Thanks for the heads up.
