Magnesium ribbon

Anyone remember that strip of magnesium back in school that used to burn brightly when lit up? Well I was wondering what can I do with a strip of wire in terms of light photography or anything else. Any ideas?

Thats probably a bit beyond my skills. Can't find any ideas beyond using it as a mere light source in the flash mold.
