Magnets on case?

I'd avoid regular magnets next to a case. Might not be strong enough to kill your PC but do you really want to risk it?

The Neodymium magnets you've linked to are far stronger than regular magnets. Wouldn't even think about it.

I wouldn't stick anything magnetic to a PC especially a magnet  It would probably only affect a hard drive but there are better alternatives like Velcro or double sided tape.
Andi.

One of those little neodymiums will be fine provided you don't rub it over a mechanical hard drive.

They aren't that powerful.

Every mechanical hard drive already has a neodymium magnet inside it.

You'd have to have massive magnet to actually wipe a hard drive.

I have had one of these globes that floats in the air using magnets for xmas and I have stood it ontop of my pc. Its been there for a day now and the pc hasnt blown up yet. I dont think the magnets are in contact with the pc though as they are pointing at each other to hold the globe in the air and all my drives are sitting at the bottom of the case?

The most likely damage done to a PC by a nearby magnet will be to the Hard drive. It won't blow up but areas of the magnetic surface will be affected over time. Worst case is you'll lose something from that disk. The damage will probably not be immediately noticeable as error correction within the disk will manage for a while for a while.

I might print out some kind of a stand or base on my 3d printer, so its raised of the pc

You will be absolutely fine. The magnets will not affect any modern HDD or SSD.

Yeah I have read that, but what about cpu, memory and fans ect?

I have just started to print out a 10cm stand for my floating globe, Hopefully it will be raised up high enough from the pc case and wont look too bad. cross fingers

What about them? The magnetic forces you’re talking about will have no affect.

Corsairs new ML fans are Magnetic for example, you have magnetic dust filers, RGB strips.

The magnetic forces are low, so localised that it’s simply not strong enough to bother a disk.

Your globe (awesome by the way!!!) is fine on top of your case. :)

What I am a tad concerned about it the cpu is like only a few cms away from the globe and could effect it over time. The globe uses power to make the magnetic force so its not just your bog standard magnets.

Electronic components are more susceptible to static discharge than proximity to prolonged magnetic field. As long as you don't have these new hyper powerful magnets near the PC you will be fine.
However as said earlier why even use a magnet when there are alternatives?
Andi.

I understand your concerns, but it's fine. I cannot say anymore to re-assure you!

The stand had finished printing out this morning to raise the globe off the pc, l and I thought it would ruin how it looks, but it doesnt look too bad at all.

I know you say I shouldn't wrorry and it will be fine, but you never know and you need to reseat the globe when you switch off the power and you need steady hands that I dont have. So I think it will be left on 24/7, it only uses 2watts according to my plug-in monitor thing.

Now that I have raise the globe up, the globe starts to spin when I turn on the pc ,, COOL HEY. Im guessing it must be the case fans thats causing the globe to spin:D
